Teresa Eng : Speaking of Scars

Text der Fotografin im Buch:

„I was in Calais working on a photographic project about displaced migrants, when i was raped. In my traumatised state, my senses were overwhelmed as I attempted to process what happened. As I returned to daily life, the traume manifested itself as flashbacks.

Photography, the cause of my predicament, became a coping mechanism. To photograph was to take back some form of control following uncontrollable events. These images were taken over a three year period, from the work that precede the attack, to the process of recovery and the eventual trial.

Words have always felt insufficient when speaking about trauma. Through photography, I’ve been able to transform the unspeakable into a visible language.“
